1.

To play the guitar or any musical instrument, you need to first learn some basics in music.

In music there are notes, chords, beats, tempo and rhythm. Let's start with Notes.

Signs : #=sharp , b=flat

The Notes are :-

A, A#or Bb, B, C, C#or Db, D, D#or Eb, E, F, F#or Gb, G, G#or Ab.

The distance between each note is a semitone.

2.

Each fret on the neck of the guitar is a semitone. The note of the 1st string from the bottom is E (the thinnest string )If you press between the 1st fret(at the neck) and the 2nd fret, that's note F, up 1 fret forward is F#or Gb. Up 1 fret will be G, up 1 fret is G# or Ab, and so forth and so forth until you reach the 12th fret, that's also note E (there are 2 dots marked on the neck). The 2nd string is note B. The 3rd is note G. The 4th is note D. The 5th is note A, and the 6th (the top string) is also note E.

3.

Ok we've covered Notes ,now we move on to Scales.A Scale is the related ascending and descending notes of a Keynote.

Eg. Scale of C major :

C D E F G A B C

Doh Ray Me Fah Soh Lah Te Doh

The gap between C and D is 1 tone, D and E 1 tone, E and F a half-tone or semitone, F to G 1 tone, G to A 1 tone, A to B 1 tone, B to C a semitone.

So all the other major Scales follow the same pattern.

MAJOR SCALES :

C - C D E F G A B C

C# - C# D# F F# G# A# C C#

Eb - Eb F G Ab Bb C D Eb

E - E F# G# A B C# D#E

4.

Now let's talk about minor Scales.

For a minor Scale, the third and sixth notes in the scale are flattened.

Eg. C minor Scale :

C D Eb F G Ab B C

Eb - 3rd note

Ab - 6th "

For all minor Scales the pattern is the same.
